It’s no secret that I’m constantly on the prowl for great vintage finds. One of my favorite things to do on a Friday morning is to scour www.estatesales.net and visit homes in my fair city. I’ve also been known to stop at a few when I see a brightly colored sign on the side of the road. I just can’t help myself.
I hit this house earlier this morning in University Park. Isn’t this place adorable! Odds are somebody will buy it, tear it down, and build some tacky monstrosity in its place. Le sigh.
I’m usually on the hunt for vintage glassware, a punch bowl, fun vases, well you get the gist.
Then I stumbled upon these. I nearly died. These Stendig Prague Armchairs are the same chairs Sofia Coppola has in her home. They’re extraordinarily expensive, and they’re rarely found in a set this big. There were no rips or tears in the cane, and they were the perfect beech wood color. They were asking $450 for the set of six. I should have bought them and begged my husband for forgiveness for depleting a portion of our home savings fund later.
There were also adorable owl figurines and other mid-century bird sculptures. Owls in the home are very in right now.
I ended up purchasing the horns pictured above, which were $25. At another estate sale, I got the basket, the silver soap dish, and the vintage honey pot for $8.50. Overall I’m happy with my finds, but I will always regret not buying those chairs. That is the lesson of the day – never pass up buying something you can’t stop thinking about.
