Tyler Garrett's Dallas apartment offers an early look at the distinctive point of view behind Garrett Interiors. Bold color, vintage furnishings, original art, and unexpected combinations come together in a home that feels collected, personal, and completely comfortable taking risks.
Rather than designing around a single style or period, Tyler layers pieces according to color, shape, texture, and personality. Mid-century influences mingle with vintage finds and contemporary accents, creating an interior that feels developed over time rather than assembled all at once.
A Home Designed Around Color
Color is one of the defining elements of Tyler's work, but what makes the apartment interesting is how deliberately he uses it.
Instead of relying on one dominant palette, saturated tones appear throughout the furnishings, artwork, accessories, and smaller styled moments. Bright yellow, orange, green, blue, and red create points of energy against quieter architectural surroundings.
That freedom with color is balanced by strong silhouettes and vintage pieces, allowing the individual elements to feel playful without losing the composition of the room.
The result is maximalist without becoming chaotic. Every layer contributes something different while still feeling connected to Tyler's larger point of view.
Vintage Finds and Collected Art
Vintage pieces play an important role throughout the apartment.
Tyler has an eye for objects with personality, from furniture and accessories to secondhand portraits that he transforms into original artwork. Rather than treating those pieces as finishing touches, they become part of the identity of the rooms.
It's an approach that gives the apartment a sense of history while keeping it from feeling overly precious. Pieces from different periods coexist comfortably, connected less by provenance than by Tyler's instinct for proportion, color, and visual interest.
That mix is central to the Garrett Interiors aesthetic: eclectic, unexpected, and willing to combine things that might not seem like obvious companions.
Styling as Part of the Design
Styling is another important layer of Tyler's work.
During our photography session, we photographed both existing areas of his home and vignettes that we built collaboratively from pieces throughout the apartment. Moving objects, artwork, furniture, and accessories allowed us to explore smaller compositions that captured his design perspective beyond the rooms themselves.
Those moments reveal something important about a highly collected interior. The story isn't only in the architecture or the furniture plan. It can exist in the relationship between a lamp and a piece of art, the shape of an object against a wall, or an unexpected combination of color and texture.

Photographing Tyler Garrett's Home
Photographing Tyler's apartment was as much about capturing his eye for styling as it was documenting the rooms themselves.
We began by walking through the apartment and identifying the areas that best represented his work, then collaborated on several smaller vignettes using furnishings, artwork, and objects from throughout his home.
The resulting photographs move between environmental views and tighter compositions, allowing the larger design story and the individual details to work together.
It's also one of the things I enjoy most about photographing designers in their own homes. Personal spaces often reveal the instincts behind their professional work in their most concentrated form: the pieces they collect, the risks they're willing to take, and the details they choose simply because they love them.
