Interior Photoshoot with Emerging Designer Tyler Garrett of Garrett Interiors

When Tyler of Tyler Garrett Interiors and I connected via Instagram earlier this year, I was immediately enamored with his design work. Tyler’s design style is bold and eclectic, with plenty of color and mid-century details mixed in. My inner maximalist, color happy obsessed, Don Draper loving heart felt seen. When the opportunity to photograph his beautiful interior design work presented itself, I knew it would be an incredibly fun day.

I asked Tyler during our session how he found his way to interior design, and he said he’s always been that creative, artistic kid who loved spending time sketching in his notepads, and rearranging his bedroom. Tyler also has an incredible eye for unique, vintage accessories and art, and has even created his own line of artwork from vintage secondhand portraits brimming with colorful language. I’m still trying to convince him to sell them as prints, because they are that good!

After graduating from interior design school, Tyler launched his design business Garrett Interiors, and works with clients across Texas. Tyler loves taking risks and designing challenging spaces, and wants his interior design work to be bright, fun, and attention grabbing, encouraging his clients to live a little more colorfully in their homes. In a black and white world where everything is gray, I’m yearning for more saturated color, and couldn’t be happier seeing a young designer with such an original and distinct point of view.

Once I arrived to Tyler’s apartment the morning of our Interior Photography Session and lugged all of my equipment up three flights of stairs, we walked the space together and discussed what he wanted to photograph, and what he didn’t really want to feature. Tyler’s always shows parts of his home on his Instagram account (which you can follow @tggarrettinteriors), so we captured some corners of his home he loved the styling and design of, and we collaborated and created some vignettes and styled some moments from the ground up.

The natural light was really good in his apartment the morning of our shoot, so we found a white wall with great lighting and got to work.

If you love colorful and bold interiors and are in need of a designer for your own space, I can’t recommend Tyler enough. I really cannot wait to see where his design career leads him. He’s incredibly talented, and he’s exceptionally good at styling. I had so much fun collaborating with him, and I honestly look forward to working with him again in the future.
