What to Expect During Your Photoshoot with an Austin Interior Design Photographer
Planning an interior photoshoot can feel like a big deal—after all, it’s not every day you’re about to put your work (and your reputation) under the lens. So, if you’re working with an Austin interior design photographer, you probably want to know exactly what to expect and how to prepare, right?
I get it. It’s nerve-wracking, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. The goal is to work together to create images that showcase the essence of your design, and trust me, we’re going to make it happen. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll have a laugh along the way.
Here’s how the photoshoot process unfolds, step by step:

An Austin Interior Designer Photographer's Photo Shoot Process
Consultation: Let’s Get on the Same Page
Before I even pick up a camera, we’ll sit down and chat about your vision, your work, and your goals for the shoot. What are you hoping to get out of these photos? Are you looking to showcase a specific project for a magazine, website, or social media? Or maybe you’re gearing up for a branding refresh? This is where I get to know YOU, your style, and what you need from these images. You’ll get a chance to tell me all about your design process, the feeling you want to evoke, and the details you want to make sure are highlighted.
And I’m not just a camera-wielding robot here. I genuinely care about making sure your designs shine. I want you to walk away feeling like you’ve captured everything that makes your work special. This isn’t just a photoshoot—it’s about telling your design story.
Styling: Where We Make Magic Happen
Here’s the fun part: Styling. This is where we start getting our hands dirty (figuratively, of course) and move furniture around until the composition is just right. I’m not the type of Austin interior design photographer who just takes pictures; I’m in the trenches with you, styling each shot to make sure everything looks its best. Whether it’s adding a little pop of color with a vase, adjusting the angle of a chair, or straightening the throw pillows (let’s be real, the pillows never stay where they’re supposed to), we’re here to get the right shot.
And speaking of styling, I’ve worked with some incredible designers in the past, like the time I worked with Brittney Lane Interiors. What started as a photoshoot with a few minor hiccups (like a dog who thought it was a great idea to run away, dont worry, we found her!) turned into an amazing day filled with creativity. It was chaotic, sure, but we made it work, and that’s part of the fun!
The Photoshoot Day: It’s Go Time!
On the day of the shoot, I’ll show up with all my gear ready to capture your space in all its glory. We’ll review the plan, talk through the shot list, and then it’s time to get to work. I’ll get right to shooting wide-angle shots of the entire room—think hero shots that showcase the full space. This is your big moment, the shot that will tell the story of your space. We’ll focus on the layout, how the light is hitting the room, and the overall feel of the space.
Then, we’ll move to the finer details. These are the shots that highlight the craftsmanship of your design, things like the texture of the cabinetry, the play of light on that beautiful piece of art, or the intricate details of your furniture. This is where we get up close and personal with your design. Every shot is about showing off the beauty of what you’ve created.
What Happens After an Interior Design Photo Shoot? Let’s Talk Post-Processing
Once the shoot is done, the work doesn’t stop there! It’s time for post-processing, the part where the magic truly happens. I’ll work my editing magic to ensure that each image is vibrant, color accurate, and true to your design vision. I don’t just slap a filter on these images and call it a day. I’ll go in and fine-tune the colors, adjust lighting, and remove any distractions (like the dog that decided to photobomb your perfectly staged shot).
You’ll get a polished final product, ready to be used for whatever you need, whether it’s for your website, a social media campaign, or even for an editorial feature.
