A Retail Space with Personality

Located at Ross and Hall in East Dallas, Bar & Garden is a wine and spirits shop specializing in organic wines, small-batch spirits, cocktail mixers, vintage glassware, plants, and gifts. Its product selection has always been highly curated, and the physical space reflects that same sense of personality.

Industrial elements provide the foundation, while colorful botanical wallpaper, hanging plants, warm wood, and layers of merchandise soften the space and give it character. Bottles line the shelves in dense rows, greenery appears throughout the shop, and smaller decorative pieces introduce moments of color and texture.

Rather than separating the architecture from the merchandise, the two work together. The shop's identity comes from that layering.

Photographing Bar & Garden

Retail interiors present a different photographic challenge than residential spaces. The environment has to be documented clearly, but the photographs also need to communicate what makes the experience of being there distinctive.

For Bar & Garden, the wider compositions establish the architecture and overall layout of the shop while showing how the displays, plants, shelving, and merchandise interact within the space. Closer compositions shift the focus toward the details that give the store its personality.

The goal was to create a collection that moved between those two perspectives: photographs that explain the space and photographs that capture its character.

Design Details Worth Noticing

What makes Bar & Garden memorable is the contrast between its industrial foundation and its more playful details. Exposed materials and streamlined shelving are layered with botanical wallpaper, abundant greenery, colorful wine labels, vintage glassware, and carefully arranged displays.

There is a lot happening visually, but that density is part of the design. The repetition of bottles creates rhythm across the shelving, while plants break up harder architectural lines and introduce movement throughout the space. Smaller objects and unexpected details reward a closer look, giving the shop the collected quality that makes it immediately recognizable.

For photography, those details are just as important as the wider architectural views. Together, they create a more complete visual story of the space and the brand that occupies it.
