A Refined Take on French-Inspired Design
Maison de Bleu by Brittney Lane Interiors is a thoughtful reimagining of a once-rustic East Texas home into a refined retreat rooted in timeless European influence.
The partial renovation focused on the home's lower level, including the kitchen, living room, office, mudroom, and powder bath. Rather than erasing the character of the existing home, Brittney Lane approached the renovation with an eye toward creating greater cohesion, introducing a softer palette, more intentional architectural details, and a sense of balance that carries from one room to the next.
The result is elegant without feeling overly formal. Warm wood, tailored furnishings, sculptural lighting, and collected artwork give the home a sense of history, while cleaner lines and thoughtful contrasts keep it grounded in modern family living.
Restoring Symmetry and a Sense of Intention
One of the guiding ideas behind Maison de Bleu was symmetry.
Throughout the renovation, spaces were reconsidered to create stronger visual balance and a more intentional flow. Architectural elements, cabinetry, furnishings, and lighting work together to establish order without making the rooms feel rigid.
That balance is especially important within a home influenced by classic French interiors. Rather than relying on overtly traditional details, Brittney Lane Interiors uses proportion, repetition, and carefully considered placement to create a quieter interpretation of European design.
A Kitchen Rebuilt from the Studs
The kitchen underwent the most significant transformation, with the existing space taken back to the studs and completely rebuilt.
Redesigned cabinetry, updated plumbing, warm finishes, and classic detailing transformed the room into a more functional and cohesive centerpiece for the home. Egret White cabinetry establishes a soft neutral foundation, allowing the warmer wood tones and layered finishes throughout the space to stand out without overwhelming the room.
The finished kitchen references French country design without becoming overly rustic. Instead, traditional influences are balanced by a cleaner sensibility, creating a kitchen that feels established and timeless while still belonging to a contemporary family home.

Restored symmetry brings a sense of balance to the living room, where collected furnishings and artwork add personality.
Tempe Star cabinetry wraps the mudroom in rich blue-green color, while patterned flooring and a dramatic ceiling add character.
Soft warm white cabinetry is punctuated by a deep blue-green pantry, bringing contrast to the kitchen’s classic palette.
Black-framed doors open to a serene home office layered with soft drapery, sculptural lighting, and subtle pattern.
The open living space carries the kitchen’s soft neutral palette forward through tailored upholstery, warm wood, and collected details.
Painterly wallpaper, marble, and aged brass transform the powder bath into one of the home’s most expressive spaces.
Moody Color Against a Soft Neutral Palette
While much of Maison de Bleu is grounded in creamy whites, warm neutrals, and natural wood, Brittney introduced deeper color strategically throughout the home.
In the mudroom, Tempe Star cabinetry creates a rich blue moment that immediately distinguishes the hardworking space from the home's quieter rooms. Elsewhere, darker finishes, dramatic wallpaper, and carefully chosen accents provide contrast against the softer architectural palette.
These shifts in color give each room its own identity while maintaining a clear visual relationship throughout the lower level.

Perhaps the most successful part of Maison de Bleu is that the renovation doesn't feel tied to a particular moment.
The French influence is recognizable without becoming thematic. The neutral palette provides longevity without sacrificing personality. And the more expressive moments, from rich blue cabinetry to dramatic wall treatments, keep the home from becoming overly restrained.
Maison de Bleu feels collected rather than decorated all at once: refined, welcoming, and designed to become even better with time.
