The Project
Nikki Chu’s Florida beach home was designed to feel like a true retreat. Calm and collected, but never predictable.
Rather than relying on familiar coastal motifs, Nikki created a home that reflects its setting through material, texture, and tone. Soft neutrals establish a sense of ease while sculptural furnishings, graphic patterns, expressive artwork, and unexpected details bring her distinctive point of view into every room.
The result is a home that feels connected to the coast without being defined by it.
Coastal, Without the Clichés
There’s an ease to this home that feels perfectly suited to its Florida setting, but the design never becomes overly thematic.
Instead, Nikki lets subtle references do the work. Organic textures, tonal layers, natural materials, and relaxed silhouettes establish the coastal foundation, while stronger moments of pattern, stone, art, and contrast give the home its personality.
It feels serene, but still unmistakably Nikki.

Each room has its own identity, but the home feels cohesive from one space to the next.
A restrained palette creates the visual through line, allowing Nikki to introduce personality through texture, form, artwork, and material rather than dramatic shifts in color. The result is a home that unfolds gradually, with new details revealing themselves as you move through it.
The Details That Give the Sanctuary Its Character
Some of the home's most memorable design moments happen at a smaller scale.
Stone, wall coverings, textiles, artwork, sculptural forms, and carefully considered styling bring dimension to the quieter palette. Together, those details keep the home from feeling simply neutral and give it the layered personality that defines Nikki's work.

Nikki's Florida sanctuary balances two ideas beautifully: the quiet ease of a beach retreat and the confidence of a designer with a very clear point of view.
Nothing feels overly themed or expected. Instead, the home's character comes through its layers: sculptural furniture, tactile materials, expressive artwork, distinctive stone, pattern, and the smaller details that make the spaces feel personal.
It's coastal living interpreted entirely on Nikki's terms.

Working Together
Photographing a designer's own home offers a particularly personal glimpse into their creative perspective, and Nikki's Florida sanctuary was no exception.
She approached the shoot with the same level of intention she brought to the interiors themselves. The home was beautifully prepared and styled when I arrived, allowing us to focus on composition, perspective, and telling the complete story of the project.
It was such a privilege to photograph a space that feels so personal to its designer and so clearly representative of Nikki's creative voice.
